Base64 Encode & Decode

Convert text to Base64 or turn a Base64 string back into readable text. Non-ASCII characters are handled as UTF-8 bytes, so nothing gets mangled, and Base64URL (- and _ instead of + and /, no padding) is one click away.

Decode a JWT

The signature is not verified — that needs the key, and pretending otherwise is worse than not doing it. This only decodes the contents.

Good to know

  • The page audit reads HTML you paste — use the Link checker to follow a link
  • YAML support covers the widely used syntax only
  • JWT decoding unpacks the contents; it does not verify the signature

Frequently asked questions

The decoded text looks garbled.

The original was probably binary (an image, a zip) or text in a non-UTF-8 encoding. This tool decodes to UTF-8 text.

What's the difference between Base64 and Base64URL?

Base64URL swaps + for - and / for _ and drops the trailing =, so it can sit in a URL unescaped. JWTs use it. When decoding, either form works.

Can I encode a file or image?

This tool takes text only. What you paste is encoded as UTF-8 bytes.
