Compress a PDF
Reduce a PDF's file size by recompressing the photos inside it. Text stays text, so search and copy still work, and right after saving you see how much smaller it got. Scans and photo-heavy PDFs shrink the most.

About this tool
How to use it
- 1 Choose the PDF to shrink.
- 2 Size starts at Normal, and each option shows the size you will get. If it needs to be smaller, choose Small.
- 3 Press Download as one file to get the smaller PDF; how much it shrank stays on screen.
Good to know
- Shrinking only recompresses the photos inside — a text-only PDF barely gets smaller
- Cannot set or remove passwords — a protected PDF will not open
- Doesn’t edit the text or images on a page — it works page by page
- Does not read text out of scanned pages (this is not OCR)
Frequently asked questions
Will a text-only PDF get smaller?
Barely. What gets recompressed is the photos inside the PDF, so without photos there is little to shrink.
How do I fit an email attachment limit?
Each option shows the size you will get, so pick the one that fits and download. If it is still too big, remove pages you do not need.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Compression finishes inside this browser.
